A UK CV typically runs 2 pages and follows a reverse-chronological structure: Personal Details (name, phone, email, optional LinkedIn), Personal Statement (3โ4 sentences), Work Experience (most recent first, with quantified achievements), Education (degree, university, year, classification โ e.g., 2:1), Skills, and Interests or References (the latter is optional). Avoid US-style "resume" length โ UK CVs can be longer.
In the UK, "CV" is the standard term for what Americans call a resume. It is typically 1โ2 pages, written in a neutral British English tone, and excludes photos (in contrast to many European countries). For academic and medical roles, a longer CV (4+ pages) listing every publication, conference, and grant is expected.
Use a clean, single-column format with standard section headings (Personal Statement, Experience, Education, Skills). UK recruiters and ATS dislike multi-column CVs, tables, and graphical CVs unless you're applying for a creative role. Pika's templates default to a UK-friendly format that passes every major UK ATS including Workday, Greenhouse, and Bullhorn.
Two pages maximum for most roles. Graduate CVs and entry-level positions often fit on one page. Academic, medical, and senior leadership CVs may run longer.
No. UK employers do not expect photos on CVs and including one can introduce unconscious bias risks. Stick to a clean text-only design.
Not by default. "References available on request" is acceptable and saves space. Provide actual references only when the employer asks for them.
A 3โ4 sentence summary at the top of your CV that highlights who you are, what you bring, and what you're looking for. Tailor it to each role you apply for.
